Jailer 2 at ₹666 Crore: Inside the Numbers Powering Rajinikanth’s Box-Office Juggernaut

Chennai | 25 October 2026

Ten days after it reached theatres, Jailer 2 is doing more than making money. It is rewriting the record book for Tamil cinema. The Rajinikanth-led action sequel has grossed an estimated ₹666.3 crore worldwide, and with just ₹34 crore more it will join the ₹700 crore club.

Behind the headline number is a closer story: where the money is coming from, which audiences are carrying it, and how close the film is to history.

The scorecard after 10 days

  • Worldwide gross: ₹666.3 crore

  • India gross: ₹436.8 crore (₹373 crore net)

  • Overseas gross: ₹229.5 crore

  • Distance to ₹700 crore: about ₹34 crore

On day 8 the film stood at around ₹600 crore. It added roughly ₹66 crore in just two days across its second weekend, a sign that audience interest hasn’t faded after the opening-week rush.

One rupee in three comes from abroad

Overseas markets account for about 34% of the film’s total earnings. Very few Indian films reach that share, and it shows how far Rajinikanth’s draw extends beyond India.

Saturday’s split: Tamil carries the load

On its second Saturday, the film earned ₹24.15 crore in India, plus an estimated ₹10 crore overseas. Here’s how each language version performed, with the average earnings per show:

  • Tamil: ₹16.25 crore from 5,545 shows, about ₹29,300 per show

  • Telugu: ₹4.40 crore from 1,835 shows, about ₹24,000 per show

  • Hindi: ₹2.90 crore from 4,008 shows, about ₹7,200 per show

  • Kannada: ₹0.60 crore from 203 shows, about ₹29,500 per show

What these numbers reveal

The Hindi version ran in more than 4,000 shows, second only to Tamil, but earned only about a quarter as much per show. Exhibitors in the north have given the film plenty of screens, but the audience there hasn’t yet matched that supply. The Kannada version ran in only 203 shows but earned per show on par with Tamil, which suggests unmet demand in Karnataka.

Kerala rolls out the red carpet

Kerala has turned into one of the film’s strongest markets. Jailer 2 has collected ₹63 crore in the state, the highest ever for a Tamil film there. How it compares with earlier Tamil hits in Kerala:

  • Jailer 2 (10 days): ₹63 crore

  • Leo: ₹60 crore

  • Jailer: ₹57.75 crore

  • Vikram: ₹40 crore

The original Jailer had a strong Kerala connection, and the sequel appears to have built on that goodwill.

Chasing history: the Tamil all-time list

Jailer 2 has already passed two major milestones:

  • Leo: ₹605.9 crore ✔ passed

  • Jailer (2023): ₹604.74 crore ✔ passed

Only one Tamil film still stands ahead of it: Rajinikanth’s own 2.0, at about ₹691 crore. That leaves a gap of roughly ₹25 crore. At its current pace, the sequel could pass it during its third week, which would make Rajinikanth the star of both the highest and the second-highest-grossing Tamil films.

Where it stands in 2026

Among Indian films released this year, Jailer 2 is the second-highest grosser, behind Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which reportedly earned about ₹1,778.5 crore worldwide.

The team behind the film

The film is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, with music by Anirudh Ravichander, and is produced by Sun Pictures. That’s the same core team that delivered the 2023 blockbuster Jailer.

What to watch next

The real test for any big film is its third week. That’s when the opening-week buzz fades and word of mouth takes over.

Three things will decide the film’s final total:

  1. Weekday holds: how well collections hold up from Monday onwards

  2. The Hindi market: whether north Indian audiences warm up

  3. Overseas legs: how long international screens keep the film

If the momentum continues, crossing ₹700 crore looks like a matter of days, and the bigger question is whether it can beat 2.0 for the Tamil all-time record.
